Suburban and Regional Train
DEMU’s are self-propelled train sets that use diesel engines to generate electricity, which then powers electric traction motors to move the train. DEMU’s are used in non electrified routes for suburban and regional services, in rural and remote areas, and as a backup or auxiliary services on electrified routes providing additional capacity or serving routes during maintenance or emergencies on the main electrified lines.
Medha has been involved in 90 new DEMU builds so far. Additionally, Medha carries out life extension programs and modernisation of existing DEMU trainsets as well as its subsystems, and conversions from DC traction to AC traction to suit customer requirements.
