Medha designs and supplies bespoke traction packages, control systems and energy storage systems for special rail vehicles worldwide. Medha’s Traction System is used in the Koncar, a Croation company’s Track Inspection Vehicle operating in Italy.

Collaboratively built by Medha and Indian Railways, the WAG9HH locomotive features Medha’s complete suite of traction and propulsion technology. A total of twenty of these locomotives have been produced. Engineered for speeds up to 200 km/h, the locomotive’s traction system incorporates advanced three-phase AC technology and regenerative braking, enhancing both efficiency and durability for high-tonnage freight transport.
Medha and Indian Railways have collaboratively built 1500 new WAG9 electric locomotives, each delivering 4500 kW of power and capable of speeds up to 200 km/h. The WAG9 locomotive integrates Medha’s advanced traction and propulsion technologies, including full regenerative braking, redundant Vehicle Control Units (VCUs), and remote monitoring systems to enhance efficiency and reliability.
Medha, in collaboration with SMH, has developed three H10 locomotives for Tanzania, each delivering a power output of 3,000 hp and capable of reaching speeds up to 120 km/h
DEMU’s are self-propelled train sets that use diesel engines to generate electricity, which then powers electric traction motors to move the train. Medha has been involved in 90 new DEMU builds to date.

DEMU’s are used in non electrified routes for suburban and regional services, in rural and remote areas, and as a backup or auxiliary services on electrified routes providing additional capacity or serving routes during maintenance or emergencies on the main electrified lines. Medha’s traction systems are used in 5 new DEMU trains in operation in Mozambique, each with a 6 car formation, with a power output of 1600 hp and a maximum speed of 110 km/h
Sixteen new DEMU trainsets have been delivered to Sri Lankan Railways by ICF, equipped with Medha’s comprehensive Traction System, including the Diesel engine, Alternator, Traction Converter, Auxiliary Converter, Traction Motor, TCMS, PA/PIS, Driver’s desk, and Remote Monitoring features.
Electrical Multiple Unit’s (EMU) are designed for shorter distance urban transit and for frequent stops and high capacity passenger movement. Medha has collaboratively delivered 84 trainsets for Mumbai and suburban transit. Each trainset has 12 coaches each with an acceleration of 0.54m/s2 (0-40Km/hr), a power output of 1300kW and maximum speed of 110Km/hr.
Mainline Electric Multiple Units (MEMUs) are a type of EMU designed for operation on mainline tracks, primarily to connect city centers with suburban areas. MEMUs are optimized for short- to medium-distance routes with high passenger volumes and frequent stops, offering efficient transport solutions for heavily trafficked regions. Medha has collaborated in the new build of 115 Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU), each train consist comprising of 8 coaches each. Medha MEMU’s have 968 kW power per motor coach and can operate up to a a speed of 110 km/h.
