Semi-high-speed trains are a type of Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) designed for high-speed travel over long distances while ensuring a high level of passenger comfort. The latest semi-high-speed trains, developed in collaboration between Medha and ICF, are now operational with 50 units in service. Each train has a power rating of 11.5 MW, consists of 16 coaches, 8 of which are motorized, and are designed to operate at a maximum speed of 180 km/h.

Complete suite of Medha’s Rolling stock suite of products are used in the Vande Bharat express being rolled out currently – Bogies, Traction Motor, Traction Converter, Auxiliary Converter, Train Control Management System, Drivers Desk, Passenger Information System, Onboard Safety devices, Multimedia displays.

Auxiliary converters: 275 kVA 415 V 3-phase 50 Hz, and 235 kVA 3-phase 415 V 50 Hz, and 30 kW 110 V DC
AC Traction Motors: 252 kW, 3000 rpm, fully suspended
Controls: Microprocessor based TCMS with dual redundant ECN/ETB communication network
Drivers desk: driver control interface with 10.4 inch touch screen TFT, switches/push buttons and master controller
Battery bank: 110 V DC, 90 Ah per basic unit
