Medha’s Electric Governor offers a maintenance-free alternative to traditional mechanical governors, providing precise control over diesel engine speed and performance in railway applications. The system comprises a Control Unit installed in the driver’s cab and an Actuator Unit mounted on the engine, which can be directly fitted onto the existing engine base used by mechanical governors.

  1. Digital PID Control: Utilizes advanced Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) algorithms to dynamically calculate the desired fuel rack position based on the throttle handle’s notch position and real-time engine RPM measurements.
  2. Stepper Motor Actuation: Employs a stepper motor in the Actuator Unit to precisely adjust the diesel engine’s fuel rack, ensuring optimal fuel delivery and engine performance.
  3. Load Control Interface: Electronically manages engine load by interfacing with the locomotive’s excitation system, limiting horsepower at each notch to predefined levels for efficient operation.
  4. Booster Air Pressure Monitoring: Incorporates a pressure sensor in the air manifold to measure turbocharger (booster) air pressure, adjusting fuel rack movement accordingly to prevent incomplete combustion, black smoke, excessive engine temperatures, and fuel wastage.
  5. Lube Oil Pressure Protection: Continuously monitors lube oil pressure, initiating an engine shutdown if pressure falls below specified thresholds at any notch position, thereby safeguarding the engine from potential damage.
  6. User-Friendly Interface: Features a Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) that provides real-time status updates of various engine parameters, enhancing operational transparency.
  7. Fault Diagnostics: Equipped with built-in fault diagnostic capabilities, the system promptly displays relevant fault messages and records them with date and time stamps, facilitating efficient maintenance and troubleshooting.
  8. Programmable Parameters: Offers user-configurable settings, allowing customization for various engine types and locomotive models. Configuration and parameter adjustments can be performed online using a laptop PC, even while the engine is operational.
