Automatic Train Protection

Medha’s ASFA Digital System (Automatic Signal Announcement and Braking) is an advanced onboard Automatic Train Protection (ATP) solution designed to ensure safe train operations in compliance with ADIF regulations. The system provides semi-continuous ATP, offering continuous speed supervision through punctual transmission of information via track-mounted beacons.

The ASFA Digital System is installed on a wide range of RENFE vehicles in Spain, featuring both hardware and software engineered in-house by Medha. Medha also offers comprehensive system integration services for various railway applications. The entire system is certified to SIL-4 safety level.

How It Works
  1. The ASFA Digital System receives driving information from the track and displays alerts and guidance to the train operator, assisting in safe train handling.
  2. If the system detects a deviation from the prescribed speed limits, it automatically engages the train’s emergency brake, acting as a protective safety measure.
  3. The system continuously monitors speed along the train’s route using data from track-installed beacons, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.

Key Assistance Features
  1. In-Cab Alerts: Provides visual and acoustic indications for track signals, repeating signal information directly in the driver’s cab.
  2. Speed Supervision: Monitors the train’s speed based on active control parameters in the onboard system, triggering emergency braking if necessary.
  3. Driver Performance Monitoring: Supervises the driver’s response to ASFA Digital signals, ensuring compliance with safety requirements.

Main Features
  1. Integration with Train Systems: Interfaces seamlessly with braking systems, battery, legal recorders, ERTMS/LZB, and frequency sensing subsystems.
  2. Comprehensive Signal and Event Logging: Captures detailed signal and event data for analysis using the Event Logging System Analysis Software.
  3. Customizable Parameters: Allows customization of system parameters to meet specific operational requirements.
  4. Highest Safety Standards: Certified to SIL-4 and compliant with CENELEC standards EN 50129, EN 50128, and EN 50126.

Medha’s ASFA Digital System offers a robust and reliable Automatic Train Protection solution, enhancing safety and operational efficiency across railway networks.
