DEMU’s are self-propelled train sets that use diesel engines to generate electricity, which then powers electric traction motors to move the train. DEMU’s are used in non electrified routes for suburban and regional services, in rural and remote areas, and as a backup or auxiliary services on electrified routes providing additional capacity or serving routes during maintenance or emergencies on the main electrified lines.

Medha’s traction systems are used in 5 new DEMU trains in operation in Mozambique, each with a 6 car formation, with a power output of 1600 hp and a maximum speed of 110 km/h.
