Terrain Awareness and Warning System

Overview

Medha’s Terrain Awareness and Warning System (M-TAWS) is a software suite developed to reduce the risk of Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) and improve flight crew situational awareness.

M-TAWS predicts potential terrain threats using aircraft position and flight parameters, including latitude, longitude, heading, course or track, ground speed, vertical speed and yaw rate.

The system is designed to meet the minimum requirements applicable to RTCA DO-367 Class A, B and C systems.

Key Features
  1. Terrain Awareness: Provides real-time visual and audible terrain-proximity alerts using radar altimeter, barometric altimeter and airspeed inputs.
  2. Look-Ahead Alerting and Display: Provides proactive warning of upcoming terrain threats within the selected display range, without forward emissions.
  3. Smart Alerting Logic: Reduces unnecessary and nuisance alerts.
  4. Terrain Database: Incorporates a worldwide terrain database for terrain-threat assessment.
  5. Obstacle Database: Obstacle database integration is currently under development.
  6. Software-Based Solution: Currently available as a software suite. An LRU incorporating the required audio and video interfaces can be developed based on end-user requirements.
