Battery electric locomotives use energy stored in the battery to deliver power to the traction motors. Medha is a pioneer in developing the propulsion suite of solutions for battery electric conversion of locomotives, and its application in converting existing Diesel-electrics to Battery electrics and new builds. Medha collaborates with loco body builders to manufacture new BEL’s to bespoke needs of our customers to suit any kind of application such as shunting, intermodal or heavy haul. With current constraints on energy density of battery chemistries, the heavy haul solution needs battery tender cars and is best suited to operate in conjunction with diesel locomotives in a train consist except where the gradient is favourable for capturing regeneration such as from a mine to port operations.
